Definitoin Explanation Text



Explanation is a text which tells processes relating to forming of natural, social, scientific and cultural phenomena. Explanation text is to say ‘why’ and ‘how’ of the forming of the phenomena. It is often found in science, geography and history text books.

– General statement


General statement; stating the phenomenon issues which are to be explained.


– Sequenced of explanation


Sequenced explanation; stating a series of steps which explain the phenomena.


Purpose of Explanation Text


– Explanation is a text which tells processes relating to forming of natural, social, scientific, and cultural phenomena.


– To explain how or why something happens.


Language Features of Explanation Text


In an explanation text, there are linguistic features as below :


– Using simple present tense


– Using abstract noun (no visible noun)


– Using Passive voice


– Using Action verbs


– Containing explanation of the process

  How to Write Caption Text  1. Accuracy  You have to know what you want to say. Do not write down or make judgments about the mood or mood of the people in the picture. Also pay attention to the actions of the subject or those around the subject.  2. Don't Be Too Real  Avoid phrases that tell the reader about very obvious actions, such as shaking hands, looking, gestures, chatting, and so on. This, of course, can be seen by the readers. Caption text that is too real like, 'Director A and Director B shake hands', or 'The principal of SMA J is looking at the computer pointed to by teacher B'.  3. Avoid Cliches  Avoid clichés or trite words. Avoid using words that describe actions with feelings, such as excited, rejoicing, jumping with joy, clapping happily, and so on.  4.  Definition Song is a composition of tone or voice in sequence, combination and temporal relation to produse a musical compositian that has unity and continuity. The Purpose Songs are used to express feeling and idea in an entertaining world. Songs can be used to deliver social criticism. The moral values are hidden in the lyrics. Language Features - Imagery.
